Suicide is an unfortunately reality of every society, and Alabama is not immune to it. There are more suicides than homicides every year in Alabama, and 2019 saw its largest suicide rate since 1970 when they first started tracking it.
Statistics:
- White males make up over 70% of suicide deaths
- Black females have the lowest rate of suicide
- The 10 counties with the highest suicide rates, in order, are Jefferson, Mobile, Madison, Baldwin, Shelby, Montgomery, Calhoun, Houston, Talladega and Cullman.
